We excel at connecting junior cyclists who are eager to improve with professional coaches & mentors who are ready to teach and inspire.

Our Coaches

We are very proud of our staff, who love to ride and share their knowledge. Leaders are certified through PMBIA; and we require SafeSport, 1st Aid and our own trainings to ensure our riders receive the most professional attention while in our care.

How to select a Group

Many factors are often considered in this order:

  • Age or Grade – social & peer groups are most important
  • Maturity – emotional & physical capacity must match the peer group
  • Ability – must allow for individual / group safety & enjoyment
  • Experience – incoming riders should start with something easy and move up when coaches suggest it
  • Chosen Discipline – a rider’s bike, gear and expectations should match the group’s intention. Read our descriptions and talk to the coaches to make sure your rider is well-prepared for the chosen group.

Clubs

  • Cog Kids – typically for ages 5 – 7, must be able to ride off-road
  • Elementary Club – grades 2- 5, minimum age 8, beginner to intermediate
  • Cascadia Club – grades 6 – 12, intermediate to experienced
  • Summer Camps – each week is for a different age group

Teams

  • XC Race Team – typically age 13+, must have experience & maturity
  • Enduro Race Team – typically age 13+,must have experience & maturity
  • Cyclocross Team – age 10+, mature & experienced riders — no previous CX experience needed
  • Training Camps – mountain biking and cyclocross focus; for CJC riders and open to the public

Camps & Clinics

  • Summer Camps – each week is for a different age group or ability
  • Training Camps – focused multi-day overnight camps for riders looking to boost fitness, develop skills and spend time with your teammates.
  • CJC Intro Clinics – various clinics meant to help new riders find the correct group and have an introduction to CJC location, coaches and progressions.

Cog Kids

After school and Summer Camps for our youngest riders

For young riders on pedal bikes; these are short-duration after school sessions and summer camps to build skill & gain experience on the trail with a coach. CJC teen riders love to assist the adult coaches with the summer sessions!

Elementary Club

Clinics & group rides for beginner to intermediate riders in grades 2 – 5

Single day clinics & multi-week after school programs each spring and fall. Keep your rider progressing over the summer with an appropriate 4-day Skills Camp.

As riders gain experience with us they may be ready to join our Youth All Mountain Team, or they will age-up into Cascadia Club for grades 6 – 12.

My daughter had the best time in the mountain bike skills class yesterday. She came home absolutely beaming and had so much to tell us. The coaches were incredible and she had a fabulous time.

Youth All Mountain Team

Regular team practice for experienced intermediate riders in grades 4 & 5

The Youth All Mountain Team are experienced riders who started riding very young and are motivated to progress their skills & fitness on bigger terrain (both uphill and downhill). Enrollment is for a longer season than Elementary Club and may offer optional weekend or other activities.

These riders are not yet old enough to fully differentiate between XC / Enduro or other disciplines — our skills progressions apply equally. As riders develop their maturity, experience or age-out of this group, coaches will help them progress to either the Cascadia Club, XC Race Team or Enduro Race Team.

Summer Camps

4-day mountain bike skills camps in Bend

In 2022, CJC will run 10 weeks of camps, each week geared towards a specific age group or discipline. Camps run Monday through Thursday from 8:30 – Noon. Open to youth riders from central Oregon or those in the area for a vacation or extended stay.

4-day Enduro Training Camps in Oakridge

We are adding two new Enduro Training Camps for any JR Sport / JR Expert Racers who want to improve their skills & fitness while riding on the world-class trails of Oakridge, OR.

  • CJC Team Only Oakridge Training Camp for Enduro (June)
  • Enduro Training Camp for any JR Sport / JR Expert racers (July & August)

Cascadia Club

Skills-based recreational rides for grades 6 – 12

For middle & high school students who love riding and progressing their skills and riding big days on the bike. This group focuses more on skills and personal development than providing a focus on competitions or training for events.

Every ride is about having fun, learning from the coaches & each other while applying your best effort to improve and explore.

Riders may stay in Club through high school or move to the race teams.

We took our kids on a ride today, and it was fantastic. Not only are their skills awesome, they are beautiful riders and a ton of fun to be with on the trails. Thanks for the work that you and the Cascadia staff are doing, it really shows!

XC Race Team

Cross-country junior mountain bike race team

Year-round coaching for strength, fitness and xc skills within the structure of a team. These riders want to compete and enjoy learning everything they can about racing XC. Cross-over to the Enduro Race & Cyclocross Teams is encouraged.

Enduro Race Team

Enduro / gravity junior mountain bike team

Year-round coaching for strength and fitness with a focus on the skills needed for enduro or other gravity-focused riding & racing all within the structure of a team. This is not a pure-downhill team as we are on trail bikes and must pedal for access. Racing is optional and the team sometimes travels for non-competitive events. Cross-over to the XC & Cyclocross Teams is encouraged.

Cyclocross Race Team

All conditions, all terrain & skinny tires

For riders age 12+ who want to race cyclocross in the fall, our team offers weekly training, strength training and race support at various local, regional and national events. Begins with a training camp in August and practices in September.
