Junior MTB Skills Camps

2 or 3-day Mountain bike skills instruction for youth & juniors in Bend, Oregon!

Each 2 or 3-day camp is set for a specific age / gender / skills focus, intended to compliment other offerings like teams, clubs and 4-day summer camps. Mix and match to build an effective progression for your rider.

All camps are based at our office at LOGE CAMPS Bend. Riding groups are created with a low rider to coach ratio to ensure effective coaching and individual attention.

Focused practice with excellent instructors

  • Consistent coaches & peer groups to emphasize personal progression and teamwork
  • Small groups by ability for effective learning & skill development
  • Ride more terrain, safely increase speed, build strength, confidence, and flow

Bike & Gear

While most riders have their own bikes, juniors grown quickly so we have some rental bikes available. Talk to us if you’re interested in rentals, demos or need something like a helmet or gloves for your ride.

Tips for sizing bikes:

  • Ages 5 – 7 ride 16 – 24″ wheels
  • Age 7 – 11 either 24″ or 26″
  • Age 11+ get the largest wheelsize that works for your height and style

No “Absolute Beginners” Please

Riders who truly have no experience riding off road and are unsure if they can manage their bike on a trail are generally not recommended to attend our camps. We expect that riders want to attend, want to learn from the coaches, and are capable of meeting the requirements of the group as described.

Talk to us before you enroll if you’re not sure.

Skill Levels

BEGINNER SKILLS are fundamental concepts that help younger or newer riders learn the basics about mountain biking. Less experienced riders benefit from these fundamental skills on easier terrain with fewer obstacles and more frequent breaks.

INTERMEDIATE SKILLS build up to engage riders who are ready for challenges, want to explore more diverse terrain and are ready to apply their skills to the trail.

ADVANCED SKILLS are more complex skills that require excellent control and judgement to be performed safely. These skills are more closely aligned with experience than age.

Age & Ability

Riding with peers is the most important factor when coaches create groups — so we recommend parents select our camps primarily by age.

Next, you can consider their experience or ability — most riders would prefer to repeat a level and feel like they’re in the right group rather than move up too quickly and feel like they don’t have the relevent skills or strength to participate.

  • Ages 5 – 7 ride 16 – 24″ wheels
  • Age 7 – 11 either 24″ or 26″
  • Age 11+ get the largest wheelsize that works for your height and style

Mandatory for Participation:

  • Riders must enjoy the challenge of riding on trails, both up and down hills
  • Mountain bike: a working, modern mountain bike with two handbrakes, gears and wide tires
  • Gear: helmet, gloves, clothing for weather and riding location
  • Pack: water, snacks

Coaches

Our team of trained, experienced coaches works hard to ensure each rider in the camp is engaged, riding within their limits while exploring new challenges and having fun while learning. Many of our staff are certified by PMBIA to teach modern skills progressions.

Schedule & Pricing

Minimum enrollment: note that all camps must have a minimum number of riders in order to run; we’ll be in touch with options a few days prior if the group is too small.

For riders age 5 – 7 who are learning the basics about riding on singletrack.

  • No 4-day camps for this age group, check the Cog Kids page for details
BEGINNER / FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS

For less experienced riders who prefer easy terrain, slower pace and want more time to build up their skills for riding green and blue trails. No previous coaching required. Everyone will learn about the fundamentals to help them build confidence, find more flow and progress rapidly.

INTERMEDIATE / SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

For riders with some experience who are looking to ride with more speed, better flow on rougher trails, or try more advanced skills like roll-downs, small drops, tabletops, berms & other features found on blue and black trails. Typically these riders hit the trails at least once a week and can manage pedaling uphill, riding small obstacles and are eager to learn more.

GIRLS GROUPS

Any rider who would prefer to ride this specific group coached by experienced women coaches is welcome to join.

ADVANCED SKILLS

For experienced riders who are looking to build proficiency with advanced skills so they can execute maneuvers with improved timing, confidence and flow on blue, black and double-black trails. Must have a solid foundation with some previous coaching so the instructors can jump right in to the progression.

  • Full suspension bike with dropper post highly recommended (talk to us about rental / demo options)
  • Great way for riders to build skills for gravity / enduro / xc events
ENDURO PREP CAMP

Enduro is a race format where riders are timed for multiple stages, usually descending, over the course of a longer route. Appropriate for riders who haven’t raced yet but are interested, or those in their first season of racing enduro. We will ride black trails, progress speed and repeat timed sections for fun. Check out the Youth All MTN Team and Enduro Team for more like this.
