Arrive at your hotel at the DoubleTree in downtown Bend and relax, you’re on vacation! Cog Wild will come to the hotel and help you get your bikes fit and comfortable for you for the next 3 days of cycling.
We will take you out to our favorite restaurant that sources it’s food from local farms and go over the plan for the next several days. We will send you off for a nice night’s rest and see you early in the morning!
Grab a cup of coffee and have your bags ready, we will pick you up at 8:30 and shuttle you 15 miles to our first farm for a short tour and delightful field brunch. Fuel up because we have a long and stunning ride ahead of us. We have the option to ride or shuttle to the Crooked River Canyon, a gorgeous quiet road that winds along the river past famed angling spots. You will truly feel like you are in the country on this fun, ambling ride. We will picnic along the river and end our ride at the Wine Down Ranch, nestled in the Ochoco National Forest surrounded by trees and striking rock features.
Ranch steaks, wine, bonfires and cowboy storytelling will fill our evening before we camp out with full bellies and tired legs.
Mileage: 31 or 50 miles
Farms: Boundless Farms (brunch) & Wine Down Ranch (dinner)
We will start the day off with Thump Coffee and a farm fresh breakfast before hitting the road to our next destination. We will cycle through the forest and back out into the country to pass one of the seven wonders of Oregon, the iconic Smith Rock. We will have the opportunity to stop at a hop farm for a light lunch and to learn more about what makes Oregon IPAs oh so delicious. Our road will take us west, enjoying mountain vistas, fuzzy llamas, and more dramatic rivers carving up the landscape.
Our home base tonight will be Rainshadow Organics, a fully self sufficient farm that raises everything from pigs, to wheat, to veggies. Tour the farm with Sarahlee and learn how she manages such a large parcel of abundant land. We will have a fantastic long table dinner in the fields before another restful night of frontier living.
Mileage: 35 miles
Farms: Rainshadow Organics (Dinner)
Wake up with another out of this world breakfast and slide your chamois back on for our last day of riding back to Bend. We will ride over Tumalo Creek and into the hills past more bucolic landscapes and Central Oregon dreaming before dropping back into town. Finish with a filling lunch and Deschutes beer or Humm Kombucha back at the shop before we say farewell.
Mileage: 31 miles
Farms: Rainshadow Organics (Breakfast)
Approximately 100 miles over 3 days.
Elevation can vary from between 2500 and 4000 feet. Expect climbing and descending on all the rides.
Having a support vehicle and a guide on the road allows us to accommodate all levels of riders, however if you are a regular cyclist than you will be more comfortable.
The roads we will be are on are mostly quiet country roads but will have busier sections. Central Oregon is hilly but not super steep. If you are experienced with moderate climbing and 30 miles on the saddle than you will be very will prepared for this tour.
Recommended Clothing & Gear
Prepare for three full days of riding and 2 nights camping, so bring adequate clothing and any specialty items you need to ride. Bend is an outdoorsy mountain town, calling for casual clothing for hanging out in town. The evenings and mornings in the high desert can be cold, so be sure to have warm clothing for camping at the farm.
