Introducing the McKenzie Pass Road Bike Shuttle.
From opening day through the third weekend in June, the nice people at ODOT have cleared the McKenzie Scenic Pass (Highway 242) to remain open to all non-motorized travel. Cog Wild is now offering shuttle service to Sisters for a McKenzie Eastside road ride every Saturday and Sunday, with 5 or more riders call about a custom date.
This scenic highway, designated an Oregon Scenic Bikeway, takes visitors from the dry ponderosa forests that flank the Eastern slope of the Cascade Mountain Range to the lush, green deciduous forests of the McKenzie River region on the Western slope of the Cascades. Riders will climb a fairly steep gradient up to the open lava fields that sit atop McKenzie Pass. From this vantage, you can view a number of fantastic mountain peaks, and easily pick them out via a viewfinder atop the Dee Wright Observatory. After a quick bathroom break and photo opportunity, it’s all downhill back to Sisters where you can enjoy a quick pastry at Angeline’s Bakery before we return to Bend.
Cost: $50 per person
Mileage and Ride Profile: Currently, this road is only clear to Dee Wright Observatory from the east side, which is just under 30 miles round-trip with about 2,000 ft. of elevation gain. Once crews are able to clear the route through to the westside, the full McKenzie Pass Scenic Byway route features about 40 miles of beautiful riding from Sisters to Belknap (with just under 2,000 ft. of elevation gain).

The vast majority of the McKenzie Pass is closed to traffic and has limited cell service. Riders assume all risk associated with side country unsupported riding by using our shuttle service, and must be self sufficient on the road. Beware the traffic gates on either end of the pass.
We do not rent road bikes. Please contact one of the many great bike shops in Bend to arrange a rental if needed.
