12 Seasons with Cog

Lev brings a long history of cycling to Cog Wild. He started mountain biking at fifteen in Santa Cruz and never looked back. Name a type of cycling and Lev has probably done it. From racing road bikes and DH racing to Freeride trips to Whistler, and everything in between, Lev likes to have fun on a bike. He lives in Bend with his wife Kirin and daughter Nola. Lev has been riding in Central Oregon for over 16 years and has intimate knowledge of the trails and road rides. His involvement with the bike community in Bend includes trail adoption and crew leadership with COTA and coaching young riders in with Bend Endurance Academy.

16 Seasons with Cog

Bowman is an avid topographer, skier of the slopes at Mt. Bachelor as well as hiking out into the backcountry of the central Oregon Cascades. His two kids have voted him #1 Dad the last 3 years in a row, despite the early bedtimes.

Debbi Mason

Debbi grew up in Miami and slowly migrated west. She attended Appalachian State in Boone, NC acquiring a minor in Outdoor Recreation Management. After graduating from college, she guided for NOLS before moving to Eureka, CA. to manage a ropes course for CampFire. She met her husband in Breckenridge, CO and moved to Bend in 2007. Debbi enjoys mountain biking, skiing, volleyball and spending time with her two daughters.

Dillon Caldwell

5 Seasons with Cog

Bend native Dillon Caldwell is a Category 1 road and mountain bike racer. Racing in the PRT pro road circuit, Dillon travels all over the US to race and train. Despite all his travels, Dillon still thinks the trails in Central Oregon take the cake.

Dustin Balderach

Dustin moved to Bend in the summer of 2014 seeking sunshine and endless single track after living in Seattle for over a decade. During the summer, Dustin splits his time between guiding for Cog Wild, bike patrolling at the Mt Bachelor Bike Park and mountain guiding on Mt Rainier. In the winter, Dustin works as a professional ski patroller at Mt Bachelor. When he is not mountain biking, Dustin and his partner enjoy hiking, climbing, backcountry skiing and exploring Central Oregon.

5 Seasons with Cog

Emily visited Bend 5 years ago to ride Central Oregon’s amazing single track. Fell in love on the first ride and moved to Bend, from Missouri two months later. When not riding she prefers to be riding, inspiring others to ride and stand up paddle boarding with her dog Odie. During the winter months she can be found snowboarding, fixing bikes, and napping.

Erika boasts being Cogwild’s longest serving guide. Infamous for her “Big Balls”, Erika embraces the edge in her mountain biking. When not schooling the younger generation on the trails, Mrs. Schmid instructs the whippersnappers in physics and chemistry. Erika loves riding in Canada and New Zealand but Oregon trails are dearest to her heart.

Eugene Cathcart

Eugene Cathcart lives in Oakridge, Oregon where he works as the lead mechanic at the local bike shop, the Willamette Mountain Mercantile.  He loves the variety of trails in the Oakridge area. His passion for bicycling and the Oakridge area trails lead him to create the FAT 55 bike race and GOATS Kids Mountain Bike Day. When he is not riding you can often find him up on Heckletooth trail with a rake and loppers.

Local since 1996. Greg splits his time in Central Oregon between guiding trails for Cog Wild and training Telemark and Alpine instructors at Mt. Bachelor. When he’s not riding in Central Oregon, Greg loves to go to Zion, Moab, Oakridge, and the Mckenzie to get his fix. In the after hours you can be sure that Greg is a local brewery enjoying a pint, or perhaps sipping an Oregon Pinot.

Jason Meyer

Jason, aka Big J, brings his passion for cycling and the outdoors to the Cog Wild family. A native Oregonian who has lived in Bend for 13 years, he’s been riding bicycles and motorcycles since an early age. After a short lived basketball career in the late 90’s, he started getting serious about mountain biking, and has not looked back since. Many of his friends call him Big J, and is known to have broken many a bike part. He is a student of Martial Arts, rides his snowboard in the winter, and loves to geek out and modify tuner cars in his free time.

Kirin is a not so silent partner in Cog. In addition to training guides, Kirin also teaches mountain biking at COCC and works as a sustainability educator with The Environmental Center. Kirin loves to geek out on the rich natural and cultural history of Central Oregon.

Lauren grew up in Seattle, WA and moved to Central Oregon in 2002. She moved to Bend in 2011 to go to school and stayed for the mountain biking. She is a coach for Bend Endurance Academy year round for skiing and cycling. She’ll be coaching and guiding for as along as possible!

Lawrence has lived in Bend for over 10 years. He has played in the outdoors his whole life, mountain biking, backpacking, climbing and mountain climbing. He brings his love of nature and the flow state into all of his tours. When not riding his bike he loves yoga, playing with his dog Rio and cooking with local food!

Lindsey travels the country building and teaching women’s mountain bike clinics with Ladies AllRide, a company that she founded. Her passion for teaching runs deep because she relates the sport to life in so many ways. She loves bringing women together to support each other while they face fears and accomplish more than they thought possible which undoubtedly translates into how they live their lives. Lindsey grew up in Portland, OR and has called Bend home since 2005. When she is not inspiring women through mountain biking she can be found snowboarding wherever she can find snow in the winter.

Luke has been guiding for Cog Wild for the past seven summers and enjoys meeting the many interesting people who journey to ride the wonderful trails of Bend. He coaches snowboarding in the winter and loves deep powder days. Luke is most likely to spend a warm Bend evening picnicking by the river with his beautiful wife and two amazing daughters.

Matt’s love of biking and all things outdoors brought him to Bend in 2002. Spending as much time outside enjoying all of Bend’s seasons, especially snowboarding and biking, has always kept him busy. He also is a local business owner, high school wrestling coach and enjoys cooking.
