Ellsworth Bend Biking Tour
Join Cog Wild, Ellsworth and Deschutes Brewery for three fabulous days of singletrack riding outside Bend. This three day camping trip will showcase some of the best riding in the Central Oregon. Evenings will be spent under the stars camping at a remote alpine lake. Bring your Ellsworth and we will supply everything else - including beer by Deschutes Brewery! Tony Ellsworth will along for all three days!

Below is 2009's route. For 2010 we plan to go East of Bend to the Ochoco Mountains and ride trails surrounded by wildflowers and great views. We are still planning the tours, but are designing a tour for intermediate to advanced riders. Expect lots of miles, grunting climbs and epic downhills - the Ochoco's deliver! Limited to 24 riders, call to save your spot today!
Friday: Today's tour starts at 10am at either Cog's office (255 SW Century Dr.) in Bend or Little Cultus Lake Campground. Riders can leave their car for the weekend at Cog's office and load their stuff into our van. From either our office or Little Cultus Lake there will be a shuttle to the start of the tour, high up in the Cascade Mountains at Broken Top Trailhead. Once everyone is together, we will start our ride on singletrack surrounded by enormous trees leading us to Mt Bachelor ski resort at 6000 feet. The singletrack continues by dropping down behind Bachelor descending to Little Lava Lake, bringing todays ride to 18 miles. At this point riders can choose to be shuttled to the campsite for some R&R or start the climb to Kwolh Butte. It is a hard climb up the butte, but the reward is the
descent of 2200' in 7 miles many locals call "the best in Central Oregon". Today's route includes lots of fast, open forest sections to fly through with
technical lava rock gardens to keep everyone honest. Our evening will be spent around the campfire with views of the lake and Deschutes Brewery beer in hand.
Mileage: 18 or 31 miles
Saturday: Today's ride continues with great
singletrack, doing a loop starting right from camp. We will have a picnic lunch at Charlton Lake with amazing views and crystal
clear water perfect for swimming. We call this the Cascade Lakes Loop for a reason; we also pass Lemish and Lily Lakes
during the ride. The final few miles will test your technical riding ability on
a little-used trail with tricky rock gardens and root sections.
Evening will be spent back at camp with some fun surprises for all! Mileage: 18 miles
Sunday: The final ride will put the icing on the
cake of an incredible mountain bike weekend. After packing up and loading our equipment into the van, we will shuttle to the trailhead close to Mt Bachelor at 6800 feet. From here, after an initial climb through deep forest, we
descend into Bend
at 3400 feet. We'll enjoy screaming descents among huge hemlock and pondarosa trees and traverse open
alpine meadows with views into the Three Sisters Wilderness. Our ride of mostly downhill brings us
to our completion point at the Cog Wild office in Bend.
Our tour ends here with either riders being reunited with their vehicles and equipment from the van or being shuttled 50 minutes back to Little Cultus Lake. Mileage: 30 miles
