Trail Information & Weather

Mountain Bike Trail Information
Bend Trails: There are hundreds of miles of trails near Bend and throughout Central Oregon. Most of which are maintained by COTA, Central Oregon Trail Alliance. The trails are buffed, smooth singletrack, winding through lodge pole, ponderosa and hemlock forests. There is some technical riding, with lava rock and rooty climbs and descents, but the most memorable part of riding in Central Oregon is the swooping, smooth dirt where high speeds are common. Most locals ride a three to five inch full suspension bike, but there are still many hard tail riders who swear that’s all they need here.

Weather

Central Oregon weather changes all the time. We recommend checking the weather prior to your tour to help with having the right clothes. We firmly believe there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!

Pre-Tour Fitness
Please spend quality time on a bike prior to coming on your multi-day trip to maximize your enjoyment. You will have more fun if you are in shape for three days on the bike.
Looking at the description of your tour, you need to be able to handle similar distances or terrain on rides at home. If you can do similar rides two days in a row and feel comfortable about a third day, you should be fine - but keep riding: Central Oregon is at 3,600 feet above sea level so riding here will be more difficult if you are coming from an area at a lower elevation.
If you don't think you are ready for your tour, we recommend getting out riding your bike, going for runs, doing yoga or other cross-fit exercise that will get you ready.
Cog Wild will always customize your route based on your fitness and desired ride length of individuals in the group. But we want to make sure you enjoy your vacation as much as possible and being ready to ride is key!

Accommodations
Cog Wild can help organize accommodations if you plan to arrive early or stay after your tour. To see a full list of hotels, resorts and vacation house rentals, please look at Visit Bend's website.

Our Bike & Brewery Tour includes accommodation at the Phoenix Inn. We can arrange for you to check in your room days early or stay a night or week longer in the same room.

A few other recommendations include:
Bend Riverside Motel 800-284-2363 Very close to downtown. Right on the river, there is an indoor pool on the grounds. If you don’t mind the sound of rushing water, request a room overlooking the river.
McMenamins Old St. Francis School 541-382-5174 This converted Catholic school is where the action is. There is a movie theater that serves food & beer, a brew pub/restaurant, Turkish soaking bath, Cigar Bar and more. They are also located right downtown and have standard hotel rooms as well as entire houses for rent.
The Mill Inn 541-389-9198 An eclectic B&B, walking distance to downtown, short ride to our office and very close to the river and highway. Good option for a local place. Ask for a room not on the road.

There are tons of house rentals, which are a great option for Bend. This site seems to have the most listed all together.

Outside of downtown hotels, not walking distance to restaurants:
Mt. Bachelor Village 800-452-9846
Pine Ridge Inn 800-600-4095

Cancellation Policy
We realize guests occasionally may have to cancel reservations with us. We will try to accommodate as many situations as possible, but generally we must assess the following fees:
Cancel 60 or more days before your trip: There is a $75 cancellation fee.
Cancel 59 to 45 days before your trip: This results in a total loss of deposit.
Cancel 44 to 14 days before the scheduled departure date: The participant will be required to pay 50% of trip price.
Cancel within 14 days of a scheduled trip: You are not eligible for any refund.

Note: Guests can transfer to another tour at least 2 weeks in advance for no charge. Personal emergencies do not void cancellation policy and tours go rain or shine, as it rarely rains in Central Oregon during the summer. Travel insurance that covers trip cancellation as well as trip interruption is highly recommended. If we are able to re-sell your spot on a tour, we will refund you the full tour amount.
