Sunday: We start this four-day trip with lots of downhill. The trail starts up in the Cascades overlooking Mt. Bachelor at 6800 feet and immediately dives into deep old-growth hemlock forest. As we ride the Metolius-Windigo trail, we will pass Sparks Lake, Hosmer Lake and Lava Lake on our way to Little Lava Lake, the headwaters of the Deschutes River. After our ride, relax and swim in this spring-fed lake while the guides prepare a scrumptious dinner. Mileage: 19 miles
Monday: Today is another point to point ending at Little Lava Lake. The ride starts at Mt. Bachelors Sunrise lodge, and immediately drops into the deep hemlock forest heading toward Kwohl Butte. There is a hard climb up the butte, but the reward is the descent many locals call "the best in Central Oregon". From Kwohl Butte to Little Lava Lake, the trail descends 2200' in 7 miles. Lots of fast, open forest sections to fly through with technical lava rock gardens to keep everyone honest. Just as the trail mellows out, you are greeted with views of the lake and visions of beer and a dinner around the camp fire to coax you back to camp. Mileage: 19 miles
Tuesday: Today's ride is considered the crown jewel of the trip. Starting and ending at Little Cultus Lake, we will pass many viewpoints along the way making mandatory rest stops. We will have a picnic lunch at Charlton Lake with amazing views and crystal clear water perfect for swimming. The final few miles will test your technical riding ability on a little-used trail with small rock gardens and root sections. Mileage: 18 miles
Wednesday: Whoever said Central Oregon doesn't have technical singletrack will eat there words today. Starting at Mt. Bachelor at 6200 feet and ending at Little Lava Lake at 4700, this may sound like an easy shuttle, but don't rule out the steep climbs and descents in between. After topping out at Kwohl shelter, the lava strewn technical downhill to Lava Lake will test your skills to the max. Ask your guide to show you the hidden freeride stunts, built by local trail bandits. The trail ends right at the lake, so a quick dip is in order before heading back to Town. Mileage: 19 miles
Thursday: The final ride will put the icing on the cake of an incredible mountain bike trip. From the trailhead at 6800 feet we descend into Bend at 3400 feet. Enjoy screaming descents among huge hemlock trees, traverse open alpine meadows with views into the Three Sisters Wilderness, and cross cold, babbling creeks fresh from the glaciers. Our ride of mostly downhill brings us to our completion point at Shevlin Park in Bend. Mileage: 21 miles |
